When the smoke cleared recently and we all finally got outside for a family walk, my daughter yelled repeatedly: "Look! There's blue sky EVERYWHERE!" Her unapologetic enthusiasm for fresh clean air gave me some desperately needed pep in my step and I suddenly became able to open myself up to my surroundings. What I noticed most were the birds and squirrels, who are scurrying around (like nutcases!) getting prepped and organized for their futures.

Those of you who know me well know that I LOVE nothing more than preparation and organization. In fact, one of my favorite benefits of the Pilates method is that when I'm finished with my practice, I not only feel more capable and "at the ready" physically, but also I feel more organized mentally. I want to make sure that you are getting these benefits, too, so here are my top recommendations to help you prepare for class:

1) Clear your space - Clean off your mat and collect your props. Put your props at one end of your mat, so you don't knock them over or trip on them. Turn off your phone.

2) Prepare your body - Ideally, you'd wash your hands and feet before class so you start class fresh. Also, try not to eat up to 90 minutes prior to class; abdominal work can be uncomfortable on a full stomach.

3) Organize your mind - How you think about your body matters. Many of us judge our bodies for what they can and can't do (yet!). Instead, try to get curious about your body and enjoy moving what can be moved. Try to let go of any expectations about your body or your progress that you may be sneakily bringing to class with you.

4) Lastly, bring enthusiasm to your organizational process and to all of your successes along the way. (For enthusiasm inspiration, please note the pic of my kid getting organized and ready bake!)

I appreciate how much work you are doing to make space in your lives and your homes to practice with me, particularly with all that's going on in the world these days. Thank you for continuing to show up every week and being part of this growing community.
